Installation

Installation

Year one explores the main strategies we employ when re-using existing buildings working with different briefs informed by the agenda of year two platform pairings Matter & Detail, Process & Nonterior, Re-use & Urbanism and Display & Futures. As a result the ‘installation’ strategy was used to interrogate four different sites and briefs.

When employing a strategy of installation, the interior designer might place new objects in an existing building that has been left exactly as it was found. This can lead to an interesting dialogue between new and old with elements that respond to different site conditions. As a strategy, an installation means there is little relationship between the host structure and the newly introduced interior elements. One key to the success of the strategy will be the consideration of tolerance in response to the site. Once removed, little trace should be left behind.
