There is no better professional home for the application of the superFUTURES philosophy than the Built Environment. An industry which operates at a sloth-like pace, and places much of its value and reputation on the success of the ‘built’ form. Today’s buildings are largely designed based on the regulations of the past, for the singular (economic) needs of the present, with no genuine consideration of the human, social, climatic, and civic context of its future inhabitants. superFUTURES instead places its value on the process of idea generation, of boundary-stretching, question-posing, what-if scenarios. superFUTURES is poised to interrogate and challenge the discipline of interiors, not to serve and mimic the profession.

We believe that as society grows and transforms, so do the ways in which individuals behave in and experience the space around them. So we begin with signals of social change in our core areas of focus - the futures of; relationships and interactions; pleasure and entertainment; genders and identities. You will learn how to use futures and foresight methods * such as scenario planning, storytelling and world-building techniques to speculate how these may influence habitats and explore emerging programmes of use. Aligned with bell hooks, we celebrate ‘the margin as a homeplace, a place of radical openness and as a site of activism and empowerment’.
