Shofy Dariatna
Bridge and Barrel

Shofy Dariatna, an interior design enthusiast from Indonesia, has been practicing since 2018 with a focus on FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment) and procurement for residential designs. She holds an Architectural Engineering Undergraduate Diploma, earned in 2017, and began her career at an Indonesian design consultant start-up specialising in custom-made designs. Shofy later joined a US-based interior design consultancy in New York, where she honed her skills in FF&E and procurement and gained experience working on individual client projects.

During her time at the RCA, Shofy Dariatna has focused on the issue of forced migration. Her thesis project, titled Bridge and Barrel, envisions a contemporary pub run by immigrants and aimed at attracting local visitors. This innovative project features a narrative twist where visitors become hosts, residents, and storytellers, while locals transform into guests, audience members, and listeners. The project’s goal is to foster integration between immigrants and locals, encouraging connections through conversation and a welcoming environment.

Within the superMATTER platform, Shofy Dariatna investigates how materials found during stages of forced migration can be transformed into humane interior elements. She also uses this opportunity to challenge AI, questioning its ability to assist in designing projects that emphasize humanity. In this project, Shofy develops furniture design concepts with an empathetic approach, which has become her primary interest.
