In the FUTURES platform our core focus is to imagine

society differently. We combine Futures Literacy* with design criticality and action, to help us prepare today for the uncertainties of tomorrow. We are concerned with thinking beyond the world as it is - to consider the world as it might be - we are embedded in the plural possibilities of this transformation, not in its prediction.

If as some say, interiors as a discipline centres on ‘spaces for living’ then the FUTURES platform asks the question(s); how are the ways in which we are living changing; how can design be a critical part of the process? How do these transformations manifest in the spaces that people experience everyday? How does a shift to a different form of life, or energy system, or understanding of family or social life, emerge in the context of breakfast, lunch, dinner, sleeping, talking, creative work, travel etc? We believe that as society grows and transforms, so do the ways in which individuals behave in and experience the space around them. So we begin with signals of social change in our core areas of focus - the futures of; relationships and interactions; pleasure and entertainment; genders and identities. You will learn how to use futures and foresight methods such as scenario planning, storytelling and world-building techniques to speculate how these may influence habitats and explore emerging programmes of use.
